The online lectures are organized by class, exactly as in the original syllabus and placed in the respective folder. You should find both mp4 and webm formats: different browsers like different formats (my chrome is fine with either, firefox likes webm, and I think any microsoft browser will only eat mp4). If you have problems try the YouTube version as youtube will automatically deliver what your browser can eat. The usual assignments list will be updated as usual and should include the youtube links to the videos that are also in the ClassXX folder. Currently homework is not being "collected" but the current plan is, following a zoom meeting on Friday, to "collect" by having you scan-to-pdf your solution pages (probably using a cell phone app) or by directly writing your solution in Word (or better) app (but its actually pretty hard to write mathematics in Word). I want to emphasize some problems (minor compared to today's world-wide problems) relevant to the class. With one-way communication via video, you don't get to ask questions and I don't get to look into your eyes for signs of confusion. When you walk into a classroom a lifetime of experience kicks in telling you go "brains on", whereas the experience of watching YoueTube videos suggests exactly the opposite. (You will need to create the classroom vibe on the screen.) I think it's inevitable that without person-to-person teaching, learning is going to require more careful attention to the textbook (which of course is fairly dense mathematics). I've been told that students have counted the steps between the library and my office to determine the shortest path. Similarly online you'll need to find the shortest path to conversations with me. I know questions are often not the sort that can be easily be put in an email (e.g., "I have no idea what you're talking about" vs. "what is the surface area of a sphere") but that can be a start. I think I'll often try to respond with a generally available video as others probably also have your question but can't think how to begin. You can also initiate a zoom meeting with me or your usual helpmates. Of course, what we really need is a list of solutions not a list of problems, so let's all be thinking about possible solutions. (And the plan is I'll literally be seeing you on Friday.) Pray for a covid-19 free world! Be lonely and wash your hands! tom kirkman
